Our technical department is capable of developing HV cable power line project designs at all levels, from the feasibility study to the executive construction phase. Starting from the definition of the route and the identification of existing sub-services, all the technical elements of the route are gradually defined, such as the laying sections, the longitudinal elevation profile, the cross-sections, civil works for joints and terminations. Depending on the specific needs of each line, solutions are also developed for specific locations, such as the design of trench-less crossings or the structural calculation of RC elements and steel structures.
We also undertake complementary activities such as topographic surveys, georadar mapping, geological investigations, characterisation of excavated earth and rocks, interfacing with managers of infrastructure or interfering services, management of relations with administrations and competent authorities.
In the context of cable lines we can supply all the materials necessary for constructing the relevant civil works, in particular prefabricated RC structures and elements for the support of cables and related terminations. All materials are provided by qualified suppliers and are managed according to a quality system.
Trenches are fundamental civil works element for the laying of cable power lines. We have several years of experience in digging trenches for the laying of line infrastructure. Our expertise is based on hundreds of kilometres of trenches excavated in highly diversified areas, such as densely populated urban areas, high-traffic road infrastructure, agricultural and mountainous areas and riverbeds.
We operate in the field of HV cable-laying, deploying highly qualified personnel equipped with Terna professional profiles. The considerable experience of our technicians and workers, together with the vast range of available machines and equipment, allow us to operate in any installation segment: trenches, tunnels, vertical shafts, bridges, viaducts, etc.
As part of the civil works necessary for laying power line cables, we also manage the construction of the structures that house the joints and the line termination support structures. We also support HV cable suppliers during splicing, termination and packaging operations, using our own workers, vehicles and equipment, including the fitting out of splicing stations and erection of scaffolding for termination execution.
Our know-how also extends to specialist tasks for handling particular situations in underground lines. Some examples may be laying cable duct using trench-less technologies (Controlled horizontal drilling, pipe-jacking, microtunnelling), crossing river beds, installation of cable support structures for decks and viaducts (including design, supply and installation of systems for compensation of thermal expansion).
